A comprehensive full day tour explores the rich historical legacy of China’s
ancient dynasties. Begin the day with a stroll through the courtyards,
palaces and pavilions of the imposing Forbidden City, once the exclusive
enclave of Ming Dynasty emperors. Stand in Tiananmen Square, the largest
public square in the world and the political center of China. Then visit
the beautiful Temple of Heaven where you can try the “Whispering
Wall” – a marvel of Ming Dynasty acoustical design. Enjoy
a leisurely tour of the pavilions and gardens of the beautiful Summer
Palace – built as a seasonal retreat for the Machiavellian Dowager
Empress. Meals B,L
Day 3 - Beijing
Experience the thrill of walking on the Great Wall, an ancient fortification
that stretches for thousands of miles across the rugged mountains north
of Beijing. Then visit the Ming Tombs, burial site of 13 Chinese Emperors.
Entrance to the sacred burial grounds is via the Avenue of Animals along
which 18 pairs of huge stone figures stand guard. Meals B,L
Day 4 - A FreeStyle Day in
Beijing
Customize your vacation and choose one of these carefully planned, included
excursions:
• Panda Hall: Visit the
Panda Hall at the Beijing Zoo to see these amazing animals.
• Beijing Pearl Market: Visit the sprawling, multi-floored Hongqiao
Market and browse the many shops selling toys, electronics, silk, shoes,
fashion accessories and – of course – beautiful pearls, especially
delicate freshwater pearls.
• 798 Art District: In 2002, a dilapidated government- run electronics
plant – Factory 798 – was converted into an extraordinary
complex of galleries, artists’ studios, design firms, restaurants
and bars. Today, it’s the vibrant hub of Beijing’s rapidly
evolving, avant garde art & design scene. Enjoy a guided visit to
this amazing urban space.
• Hutong Tour: Ride a rickshaw to explore a Hutong, one of Beijing’s
old Chinese settlements. It’s an intimate and up-close look into
the daily life and traditions of the residents in this rapidly changing
city.
• Half day private car, driver, and guide at your disposal for 4
hours – make your own sightseeing.
