Classic South America - 9 Days Escorted   Program Details
Visiting Buenos Aires, Iguassu Falls, Rio de Janeiro

Iguazu Falls

Days 1 & 2 – USA / Rio
Fly to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. Your local host is at the airport to assist in your transfer to the hotel and fill you in on the week’s activities. The evening is free to begin exploring this exotic place.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 3 – Tour Rio
Rio is one of the most beautiful cities anywhere in the world — like Hong Kong, Capetown and Sydney — where the city and the water merge into a spectacular tableau. Rio’s beaches — including the interlocking Ipanema, Copacabana and Leblon — have been made famous in song and theater; providing inspiration to nearly everyone who sees them. The city and beaches are presided over by spectacular Sugar Loaf Mountain; from Red Beach, a cable car ascends in two stages to the summit. From here the crescent of the Atlantic Ocean beaches comes fully into view and the city is spread at your feet. (B)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Days 4 – Enjoy Rio!
The time in Rio is unplanned, but there are many optional tours available. A great option is a journey along the ocean roads to the fishing village of Itacuruca; here you’ll embark on a Saveiro (schooner) for a daylong cruise to the tropical islands in the Sepetiba Bay.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 5 – Rio / Iguassu Falls
Fly to Iguassu and transfer to your hotel before heading out to see the falls. You’ll pass through Brazil’s Iguassu National Park and then continue on foot, heading down a series of walkways that end with a wonderful view of the main falls on both the Brazilian and Argentine sides. Iguassu is twice as large as Niagara Falls and is broken into 275 inlets and drops with two straight-forward spills. (B)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 6 – Iguassu Falls
With your guide you cross into Argentina and drive to majestic Devil’s Throat, where the falling water creates thousands of rainbows hanging in mid-air. Stops are also made at the upper Argentine falls. Enjoy an evening at leisure. (B)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 7 – Iguassu Falls / Buenos Aires, Argentina
Combine a well-defined European heritage with the prestige of a South American capital city and you’ve got Buenos Aires. Fly to this capital city and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free. (B)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 8 – Tour Buenos Aires
You’ll get an overview of Buenos Aires on a tour which visits the Plaza de Mayo — the traditional focus of this lively, 24-hour-a-day city. Avenida 9 de Julio is known as the world’s widest street, and the Teatro Colon is one of the world’s premier opera houses. The rest of the day is free to explore the city’s bevy of restaurants (serving legendary prime beef and good wine), elegant shopping and fine arts. (B)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 9 – Gaucho Fiesta
The entire day is free; optional adventures include a journey along the Panamerican Highway into the pampas to a Gaucho Fiesta on an estancia (Sunday and Wednesday only). Here, enjoy a traditional barbecue lunch, folklore show and riding demonstration by the gauchos before returning to Buenos Aires. In the evening, head out to dinner and a show of fiery tango dancing at La Esquina de Carlos Gardel. (B,D)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 10 – Return to USA
Transfer to the airport for flights home. (B)
